Gas Saving Devices
Cost of automobile fuel has been increasing tremendously so many consumers are thinking about ways to save money. There are many different strategies and methods to consider including gas saving devices. However when thinking about these devices it is important to separate the myths from the facts. After reviewing the information, you may find that such devices aren't worth the money and that you'd rather employ other techniques in an attempt to conserve fuel. However some people do go for these devices and some of them find mild to moderate improvement depending on the device used and their individual circumstances.
The Federal Trade Commission or FTC warns consumers to watch out for claims that seem too good to be true when it comes to fuel conservation. The FTC has actually tested more than 100 different devices and found none of them offer any kind of substantial benefit. For example you may come across an advertisement for a device that claims to improve mileage by 20 percent. Most advertisements for these types of devices claim savings that range between 12 to 25 percent. However as mentioned before the EPA tested over 100 devices and found no product that substantially improves mileage or fuel conservation. They actually found that some products might actually damage your engine or dramatically increase polluting emissions.
If you want to research these devices for yourself, the EPA and FTC offers extensive information on their websites. For example one section of the EPA site lists more than 100 downloadable reports and test results for fuel saving devices categorized in alphabetical order by the name of the advice. This information is free to access and can help you make an informed decision whether or not you want to spend your money on such a device.
Rather than investing in gas saving devices that may or may not work, you can employ smart and safe strategies to help increase your mileage. Don't idle or rev your engine unnecessarily, avoid warming up your car longer than 45 seconds in cold weather, try to keep your speed steady and avoid driving any faster than 55 mph. Don't roll the windows down if you're hot, use the air conditioner instead. Try carpooling and consolidate your outings into one day, mapping out the shortest route ahead of time. Tips like this can help you save gas and money without using questionable devices.
